MARS ATTACKS! The Art of the Movie

Karen R. Jones

TITAN Books

An in depth, behind-the-scenes look at Tim Burton's very individual take on the alien invasion movie, inspired by the Topps 1960s trading cards.

REVIEW

Movie tie-in books are notorious for shoving a mass of screen shots in your face and surrounding them with scratty bits of irrelevant text. Not so Mars Attacks! The Art of the Movie. Here you get the cards, the history, the special effects and the people all examined in depth and strangely - interestingly. The pictures are of the story boards art mixed with behind the scenes shots and only occasionally stills from the film.

It is an intriguing story, from the 60's card set to stop-motion concept which was converted to computer animation when it was seen how realistic it could be. Karen R. Jones has done a fine job in compiling this tome of facts on the film. I doubt very much if there is anything else to find out - it's ALL here in magnificent primary colours.
