REVIEW (from Kimota #13) By heck this un’s a big bugger and no mistake! I kid you not readers. A big belting major release from Titan Books, up there with their publication of ‘The Psychotronic Video Guide’ a while back. Sized trade paperback, running to 450 pages and one ‘monster’ over 3,500 (Yep, 3,500!) movie reviews. It has been said that the author, one Stephen Jones has watched all the movies mentioned in the book. I’m sure he has and they say being a good snooker player is a sign of a misspent youth! Don’t for one minute, go thinking that this mighty tome should be attempted to be read and digested in one go. It’ll do yer bloody ‘cad in and send ya brain into big-time information overload! This beauty is a dip and flick reference gold mine. Pick it up, open at random and just look up the sheer volume of detail for a bit, chillin’ out and ‘digging up’ fond memories from a distant past. All the usual suspects get the treatment, including Frankenstein, vampires. mummies, zombies and a good many others, not forgetting the many porno type horror spin-offs. The only complaint I have is, I would’ve liked a few more illustrations and photos, although what there is are top notch. The introduction by Forrest J. Ackerman makes for a groovy read and kicks off the book in a crucial style. A sure winner for Titan and Jones! John Carter |
