REVIEW (from Kimota #11)

Jesse Custer, the reverend with the ‘voice of God’, returns. This time the emphasis in on the background of his arch foe Starr. We find out what led to the creation of this twisted monster who seems to walk the thin line between a dedication to saving the world and an urge to control it.

Jesse Custer is still trying to find God and make him pay for his past deeds, but a trip to the Arizona desert to take some Indian magic mushrooms only leads him to a place Starr can plan to kidnap his girl, Tulip.

The climax which kills and poisons thousands of native Americans is dramatic and emphasises the themes of this series of graphic novels - man’s inhumanity, and a belief in anything at all is pretty stupid.

The original shock value of the series may have tempered but the characters are being drawn in more and more detail by writer, Garth Ennis. This is the strength of the comic, not the plots, but the characters.

Thank God (if you can find him) that Ennis still has the touch.
