HEAD INJURIES

REVIEW (from Kimota #9)

To read a novel that transports one from the heat of Marmaris in Turkey to the bleak, coldness of a run-down seaside resort in winter, could be construed as an extremely mixed blessing. Conrad Williams’ book, Head Injuries did just this, taking me from the warmth, sun and security of a hotel poolside to the horrors of Morecambe in winter.

David Munroe, a self-confessed sad bastard, is summoned to Morecambe by Helen, an old friend and ex-lover. Helen has also contacted Seamus, another old friend and the story concerns what happens to this trinity as they relive old memories and are forced to face the consequences of their past actions, This is a well written and tightly plotted novel. The characters are believable and what happens to them is truly horrifying. Go out and buy a copy, buy two and give one to a friend. There are a small group of authors who, when they publish a new book, I immediately rush out and buy a copy, Conrad Williams has just added himself to this number.
