REVIEW (from Kimota #9) Like Bob Shaw and Stephen Baxter, Neal Asher performs scientific extrapolation, which amaze and entertain. Only Neal’s inventions are biological - usually. The book consists of seven stories, linked, tenuously, by being set in the same universe. The Engineer is of novella length and concerns the finding of an alien who has amazing powers. The other stories describe other aliens and planets. But these stories are not just linked by the universe they are set in; they contain some beautifully rendered characters. Humans who have to deal with the strangeness from Neal's imagination. Style and imagination, that’s what this collection has… in bucket-loads! Graeme Hurry
